Why do so corsets wholesale many models become lingerie designers? It used to be that top models would set their sights on acting once they’d conquered the catwalks and top ad campaigns. The silver screen would lure their photogenic features in but more often than not, provide them with nothing more than wooden performance opportunities, spit them out and lumber them with a not so complimentary model-turned-actress tag.

Now, a rite of passage for any successful long gown dress model appears to be a lingerie line of their own – or in the case of Naomi Campbell, both.

The model, TV presenter and actress is enjoying a stint in cult TV show Empire playing Camilla Marks, yet has somehow found the time to add designer to her CV. She’s teamed up with little-known Italian brand (to the UK market, anyway) Yamamay to create a lingerie line called I Am Naomi Campbell.

And being one of the most successful faces in the business, Campbell got revered photographer Mario Testino to shoot the fruits of her labour.

The 45-year-old has certainly clocked up plenty of lingerie modelling experience over her 30-year-career; most recently she was the model body for La Perla and Agent Provocateur’s campaigns. Appearing to be in the best shape of her life, Campbell dons a thick fringe to model the sexy body suits and bondage-inspired separates that make up her Christmas offering.

Compared to her peers, she’s a latecomer to the model-turned-lingerie-designer brigade; fellow supermodel Elle Macpherson started her Intimates business in 1999. Since then Gisele Bundchen has launched her own label while Helena Christensen has collaborated with Triumph and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has created Marks & Spencer’s most successful lingerie collection to date.
