An acclaimed Walter Burley Griffin-designed home on Sydney’s Lower North Shore has been listed with $4 million hopes. It last sold at $720,000 in 1999.
The three bedroom, two bathroom home, at 23 The Bastion, Castlecrag, that sits on 768sq m with bay views has been heritage listed since 1995.
It was built for freelance commercial artist Robert Guy and his wife, Beth, who sold it in 1949 for 950 pounds.

Their small stone house, constructed in the mid-1920s, is regarded as an outstanding example of Griffin’s planning, siting and design, notwithstanding the 1960s second storey addition.
Griffin’s wife, Marion Mahony Griffin dubbed it the Temple of Aphrodite given its columns. There are photos of its free-standing fireplace in the National Library collection.
It last sold at $720,000 in 1999.
