An arrow that pieced through a ginger cat has been successfully removed, with the moggy named Mikey by RSPCA staff well on the way to a full recovery.

But Mikey's long-term prospects may yet depend on the kindness of strangers.

Mikey came to the RSPCA's attention on Thursday, when he was spotted in a Calamvale street with an arrow – longer than his body length – protruding through his body.

There were fears for Mikey's safety as he somehow remained agile, despite the arrow through his abdomen, and avoided attempts of capture.

That changed on Friday afternoon, when Mikey was finally captured and taken to the RSPCA's Wacol headquarters.

RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said saving Mikey was a team effort.

"We'd like to thank the firies who helped us coax the cat out of the drain and haul him up to safety," he said.

"The arrow was removed by our vets and so far he seems to be recovering well.

"Luckily the arrow appears to have missed vital organs and he was eating ravenously (on Saturday) morning."

That was not the end of the matter for the RSPCA, which continued its investigations into the cruel attack.

"We'd still like anyone who has any information in regard to the attack to come forward," Mr Beatty said.

In the meantime, Mr Beatty said the cost of Mikey's recovery was "sadly going to be significant" and asked people to contribute if they could.

"It's that simple, and every dollar will help us get this precious cat back to full health."

It is understood Mikey was a stray in the Calamvale area, having been abandoned by his owners.
