Smartphone manufacturer OPPO says it will revolutionise camera tech at next week’s Mobile World Congress.

The event is the annual summit of mobile technology where companies unveil their latest mobile updates and innovations.

In a solid group of emerging Chinese smartphone manufacturers, Oppo has jumped to the top of the list becoming the biggest seller in the market, and it’s looking to increase its global appeal.

The company will announce details of a new camera technology which it is currently referring to as the “5x Project”.

The 5x Project is a smartphone photography technology that will give users unprecedented ability to capture highly detailed images, the company said.

Oppo vice president Sky Li called the impending announcement “a remarkable technological breakthrough that will change how the world perceives smartphone photography.”

Not much in the way of details, but while Oppo is keeping its cards close to its chest, other companies have revealed a little more detail about what they’re brining to the industry’s major event.

So, what else can we expect from MWC 2017?

LG reveals specs for G6 smartphone:

After a number of leaks, LG unexpectedly dropped some information about its new G6 device ahead of its launch at the MWC.

A main feature of the new phone is a 14cm 2880 x 1440 display that stretches nearly edge to edge, taking up almost the entire face of the phone. The company is calling the nearly bezel-free screen “FullVision”.

Nokia to bring back everyone’s favourite phone:

It’s believed the company with the rights to make phones under the Nokia banner will unveil a handful of new phones in a return to the market, among them a revamped version of an old favourite.

Sources from the Finnish company have reportedly claimed it will launch a “modern version” of the famously unbreakable 3310 next week.

HMD Global Oy is tipped to be announcing a total of four new phones, including a revamped $80 version of the retro handset from the early 2000s at MWC.

World’s first gigabit LTE smartphone:

Chinese handset maker ZTE will launch the world’s first gigabit LTE smartphone capable of download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.

In a statement, the company said the phone’s capabilities “will revolutionise connectivity” and make “360-degree panoramic VR video, instant Cloud storage, entertainment upgrades and fast cache of ultra Hi-Fi music and movies possible.”

The device is likely to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 processor and will be capable of harnessing the future power of 5G.

Sony is expected to debut a new device, with leaks pointing to the release of the Xperia X2.

Contrary to earlier rumours, Samsung won’t be announcing the Galaxy S8 next week. Instead, the company is tipped to unveil a new tablet device — the Galaxy Tab S3.

Huawei has announced that its forthcoming device will be called the P10 but details of the new phone, expected to be debuted at MWC, have so far been scarce.

BlackBerry’s global licensee partner TCL Communications, that is due to launch the first BlackBerry-branded device at the event.
