The stepson of Karen Ristevski has called for her killer to confess and said she was the only one who truly understood him.

DETECTIVES have focused their investigation into Karen Ristevski’s killer death around soil samples that may have been collected from a shovel, according to reports.

Police have seized a shovel from the Avondale Heights family home which has been subject to testing for the types of soil found on it, according to The Herald Sun.

It comes as locals speculate about the identity of the “man with the shovel” who was allegedly seen in the area last December by a local man.

He was so rattled by the sight he reported the encounter to detectives on Monday, after being ushered away from waiting media.

On Wednesday, Karen Ristevski’s stepson Antony Rickard called for the perpetrator to come forward and “confess” in a series of posts on Facebook.

“As much as u have hurt me karen I would never wish any harm to you,” (sic) he wrote.

Urging the person responsible for Karen’s death to confess, Rickard said “it’s only a matter of time before u are spending a long time behind bars ... god bless u Karen I forgive u for all the pain.” [sic].

Mr Rickard shared a series of quotes and also left a tribute to his stepmother as the “only person who showed me true love”.

“All that I’ve done I’m sorry for all you have done to me I forgive I wish u were living it up overseas ur the only person who showed me true love and will always have a place for u in my heart u were my one true soulmate xxx rest in piece Karen,” (sic) he said.

It comes as police hunt for clues as to what happened in the hours before the Melbourne mother disappeared and family members owed to assist the investigation in any way possible.

On Tuesday, the lawyer of Karen’s husband Borce Ristevski said it was “pretty clear” that police had him as their “number one suspect.” However Rob Stary said his client maintained his innocence and urged people not to jump to conclusions about what happened.

Police have not named any suspects in the investigation that has been going on since Mrs Ristevski disappeared eight months ago after an apparent argument over money at the family home.

DNA testing confirmed on Tuesday it was her body that was found in bushland near Mount Macedon.

The family remain at the Avondale property with daughter Sarah, 21, mourning the loss of her mother.

Anyone with information on the case should contact Crimestoppers.
