A Sydney man has been charged after allegedly manufacturing guns using a 3D printer.

Detectives acting on a tip-off launched an investigation earlier this month, and yesterday searched a home unit at Waverley in Sydney's east.

Officers found four imitation pistols, including 3D-manufactured Glocks and a 3D-manufactured Sig, two air pistols, computer equipment and two 3D printers.

They arrested a 27-year-old man at the home and have charged him with various offences relating to the manufacture of firearms using a 3D printer.

He has been refused bail and remained behind bars ahead of an expected court appearance today at Waverley Local Court.

A police spokesman said the firearms were yet to be tested to see if they worked.
