MATTHEW Lee Williamson’s sentencing hearing over the death of his daughter, Kyhesha-Lee Joughin, will resume in two weeks.

Outside court, the child’s maternal grandfather, Doug Joughin, said the family had been “thrown a curveball”.

“It has been made a bit more difficult, but we will have to hang in there and wait,” he said.

“We just want closure so we can just carry on.”

The court adjourned the sentencing hearing for a pre-sentence psychiatric report to be carried out on Williamson.

A BRISBANE father’s first thought when he saw his three-year-old daughter lying dead on the ground was to get rid of his bong, a court has heard.

Matthew Lee Williamson has pleaded guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court to the manslaughter of Kyhesha-Lee Joughin in 2013 on the basis he failed to provide medical treatment for the three-year-old, but denies ever physically or sexually abusing the child.

Williamson was today giving evidence at his sentencing hearing in the Brisbane Supreme Court today.

Williamson was grilled by Crown Prosecutor Philip McCarthy, who put to him that he “concocted” a story about Kyhesha-Lee reporting bleeding to her vagina in the lead up to her death, and an allegation that his housemate caused it.

“Not true,” he replied.

Mr McCarthy put to him that he “knew that whoever examined your daughter would find injuries to her vagina”, so he made up the story.

“That’s not true,” Williamson said again.

He agreed he did not seek medical treatment for the child .

“I was afraid I’d lose her ... to welfare,” Williamson said.

Earlier, Williamson denied he ever punched, kicked or slapped Kyhesha-Lee.

He said he disciplined her using “time out” and smacked her on the bum and the back of the hand.

Kyhesha-Lee died from horrific injuries, including a perforated bowel.

A doctor told the court this morning her injuries were so severe she would not have been able to move, talk, eat or drink on the morning of her death.

Williamson denied a raft of abuse allegations, including using a large sex toy on Kyhesha, punching her in the stomach, posing naked with her and pulling on her ear until it bled.

The court was shown multiple child’s drawings, believed to have been done by Kyhesha, of a shape similar to that of the sex toy Williamson owned and male genitalia.

Williamson admitted using a rope to lock Kyhesha in her bedroom for almost 18 hours at a time but claimed it was to stop her spilling milk from the fridge when she got out at night.

He also asked his housemate Christopher Kent to get rid of a bong that was in the house before he called triple zero when he found Kyhesha dead on the floor. Mr Kent, who pleaded guilty to Kyhesha’s manslaughter last year, had spent 19 months in jail in custody before he was handed a two-year suspended sentence.

The sentencing hearing continues before Justice Roslyn Atkinson.
