A small boy has been taken to hospital after being bitten by a dog at Willung South in Gippsland on Saturday.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics were called to a property in Johnsons Lane about 12.20pm.

"A primary school aged boy has got injuries to his face and head," he said.

"He's been transported in a serious but stable condition to Latrobe Regional Hospital at Traralgon."

About an hour earlier, a man in his 70s was bitten on the hand by a dog on The Esplanade at Torquay.

He was taken to Epworth Geelong hospital in a stable condition.
