Washington: An intruder carrying a backpack entered the White House grounds near US President Donald Trump's residence on Saturday night and was arrested, according to the US Secret Service.
Mr Trump, who was in the White House at the time, was not in any danger from the security breach, which occurred 11.38pm local time.

The White House could not be immediately reached for comment.
In a statement, the Secret Service said the suspect gained entrance to the grounds on the south side near a porch from which presidents often address the public. The entrance is near Mr Trump's residence.
The intruder's backpack was searched and screened, and no hazardous material was found, according the statement.
