ONE person has died and two have been rescued and taken to hospital after they were washed off the rocks at a popular rock fishing spot near Manly.
Emergency services were called to Blue Fish Point, Manly, just after 6.30am this morning to find the three rock fisherman in the water.

They were pulled onto a police launch but one of them, a 23-year-old man, could not be revived.
Police believe two of the men, who were wearing life jackets, jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue the third man who was not wearing a jacket.
The two men, aged 37 and 31, were taken by the police launch to Watsons Bay where they were transferred to St Vincent’s Hospital at Darlinghurst.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Blue Fish Point, off North Head, is a popular rock fishing spot but one that has seen many people lose their lives.
However, a NSW Surf Lifesaving spokesman said conditions were “challenging” at the time, with swell of between 3-4 feet breaking over the rock platform.

The man was not wearing a life jacket but was able to stay afloat after another angler threw him an ‘angel’ ring flotation device.
Water police and a diver pulled the man onto a police launch and returned him to the shore. The 20-year-old was then taken to St George Hospital.
“The tragedy of this situation is that rock fishing fatalities are preventable — the data is clear and it’s consistent. Life jackets save lives and in the vast majority of successful rescues involving our lifesavers the fisher is wearing a lifejacket,” NSW operations manager Andy Kent said.
Meanwhile, another angler was rescued after falling from rocks at Cape Solander near Kurnell about 7am.
