JUST eight months after the election, support for the Turnbull government has plummeted as Labor takes a 10-point lead, according to a new poll.
Labor leads the government 55-45 on a two-party preferred basis. Support for the Greens, One Nation and Nick Xenophon Team remains steady, a Fairfax-Ipsos poll says.
The government would have lost 24 seats if an election had been held this weekend, according to the poll.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s personal approval rating has also dived to 40 per cent, but he still narrowly leads against opposition leader Bill Shorten as preferred prime minister.

It comes as Deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop told Sky News she believes Mr Turnbull will lead the party to the next election.
Ms Bishop said Mr Turnbull has her support and that of the “vast majority” of the party room to stay on as prime minister.
“He’s a can-do prime minister,” she said. “He’s got a vision for this country, he’s got a lot of issues to deal with but he’s performing strongly and he will retain the support of the vast majority of the party room in order to lead us to the next election.”
The Australian recently reported senior Liberal MPs are considering dumping Ms Bishop as deputy leader, with possible new tickets including Scott Morrison and Christopher Pyne, Peter Dutton and Mr Pyne, or Mr Turnbull and Mr Dutton.
Parliament resumes this week before breaking until the May budget.
