Teens arrested after fatal stabbing

Police have arrested two teenage boys in relation to fatal stabbing at a Queanbeyan service station, on the outskirts of Canberra.

Emergency services were called to the Bungendore Road Caltex just before midnight when an employee arrived at work to discover a colleague with horrific injuries.

The 29-year-old died at the scene, despite frantic attempts to save him.

Authorities say the incident may have been captured on CCTV cameras.

Passenger’s angry tirade at Uber driver

New York Uber driver Bell Boubacar has demonstrated an enviable level of calm when it comes to dealing with crazy customers.

His passenger went on an insane tirade in the back seat after they had a disagreement about a charger when her phone went flat.

She starts shouting from the back seat, accusing him of “domestic violence” and “holding me against my will” when he pulls over and tells her to get out.

“I’m going to tell people you hit me in my face,” she says, before changing tack.

“Donald Trump will send you and your family back to your own country.”

After eight minutes of fighting, she gets out and storms off.

Mr Boubacar just shrugs and tells the camera: “Welcome to New York”.

Duterte’s troops on the move in South China Sea

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has order his troops to mobilise in the South China Sea and take up residence on 10 unoccupied islands and reefs.

The move comes as China nears completion on a series of artificial reefs in the area, which are armed to the teeth with military hardware.

It appears to be a policy backflip from Mr Duterte, who just six months ago announced his “separation” from the US and “realignment” with China.

He said the Philippines needs to assert its jurisdiction over areas it claims, a move likely to provoke rival claimants, including China.

Irish cafe wins Easter with delicious drink

An Irish cafe has embraced the Easter spirit, serving its coffee in chocolate eggs.

Union Grind Espresso Bar in Cork shared a video of their melty mocha creation, and naturally the internet lost its mind.

It’s easy enough to replicate yourself at home, just get a large egg, wedge it into your mug, bit off the top and pour in the coffee.

So simple, yet so brilliant.

River still rising in flooded Rockhampton

The Bureau of Meteorology still has not declared a flood peak in Rockhampton with the Fitzroy River continuing to fluctuate.

According to the Bureau’s River Height Data, at 2am, the Fitzroy River reached 8.9m in Rockhampton before dropping back to 8.8m as at 5am.

The flooded city has become a political football with a federal MP and the city mayor trading barbs over stalled mitigation works.

Forecasters predict the river will recede over the weekend as clean-up preparations begin in earnest. Up to 217 homes may have been inundated.

Donald Trump to meet Xi Jinping

US President Donald Trump will host Chinese President Xi Jinping for two days of talks at the “winter White House” at Mar-A-Lago in Florida.

Ahead of the critical showdown, President Trump vowed to deliver an ultimatum to his Chinese counterpart, saying if China didn’t act on North Korea, “we will”.

“No one — neither diplomats nor aides — can be sure what will happen when the most powerful Chinese leader in a generation meets a mercurial American president who has been in office less than 100 days and is capable of unravelling the most carefully laid plans with a single 140-character tweet,” news agency AFP wrote ahead of the event.

Teen runner shows impressive speed

Usain Bolt he is not, but man Kardell Thomas can move.

The 150kg teenager, who will play gridiron for Louisiana State University next semester, showcased his impressive speed in the last leg of a 4x100-metre relay in the US.

He’s only 6’4” (193cm), but he packs a punch as an offensive lineman — so much so his teammates have nicknamed him “Mr Pancake”.

Nine Network takes strong stance

The Nine Network has taken a strong stance against a senior reporter charged with child pornography offences, suspending him immediately.

Police raided the company’s Sydney headquarters before charging 42-year-old A Current Affair reporter Ben McCormack.

They will allege in court he was engaged in sexually explicit conversations about children with an adult male and discussed child pornography.

Stand-in host Leila McKinnon told viewers last night the show would cover the incident “without fear or favour”.

Russia’s bizarre Syria explanation

Russia’s explanation for the suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria has been slammed as being ridiculous.

The country’s Defence Ministry posted a lengthy Facebook response detailing how rebel terrorists were to blame.

“According to the objective monitoring data, yesterday, from 11:30am to 12:30pm (local time) the Syrian aviation made a strike on a large terrorist ammunition depot and a concentration of military hardware in the eastern outskirts of the Khan Sheikhun town.

“Terrorists had been transporting chemical munitions from this largest arsenal to the territory of Iraq. Both international organisations and the authorities of the country had repeatedly proved their usage by terrorists.”

At least 72 people, including 20 children, died in the attack in the rebel-held town.
