Police have released the description of a man they want to speak to regarding the shooting at a Deception Bay home on Sunday afternoon.

After speaking to witnesses and the victim, detectives are appealing for public help to locate the mystery man.

He has been described as Caucasian with a slim build, aged in his early 20s, carrying a dark coloured bag and was believed to have been walking near Wagtail Drive just after 2pm on Sunday.

The house north of Brisbane was guarded overnight and investigations at the scene continued on Monday, as the 25-year-old male victim from Deception Bay recovered in hospital from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Officers responded to reports of the shooting about 2pm on Sunday and as the victim was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a serious condition, the manhunt began.

Both Polair and the dog squad were called in to search for the gunman in the immediate aftermath, but it proved unsuccessful.

Forensic officers were collecting evidence at the scene as the search for the shooter continued throughout Sunday afternoon and evening.
