A motorcyclist has died and seven others have been injured after an eight-vehicle crash in Logan.

Five cars, two trucks and a motorbike crashed on the Mount Lindesay Highway at Woodhill just after 8am.

Police said the 43-year-old male motorbike rider from Ascot died and the highway remained closed more than six hours after the original incident.

Emergency services freed a 16-year-old boy and a woman in her 40s just after 9am from the wreckage. The pair, who were suffering from chest injuries, were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in stable conditions with non-life threatening injuries.

Two others, a woman in her 40s and another in her 60s, were also taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with minor injuries.

In addition, a man in his 30s and another woman in her 60s were taken to the QEII Hospital with minor injuries. A woman in her 50s with arm and leg pain also took herself to Beaudesert Hospital.

Police urged motorists to avoid the highway, which remained closed in both directions beyond 2.30pm, between Undullah Road and Mahoney Road.

Australian Traffic Network spokesman Adam Smith said diversions were in place and traffic delays were less than one kilometre in the area.

The Forensic Crash Unit was investigating.
