9.30am: Lawyers threaten woman over one-star TripAdvisor review

Part-time nurse Sarah Gardner is being threatened over a negative restaurant review she wrote about a picturesque venue in the UK town of Kent called High Rocks.

She gave the restaurant one star on TripAdvisor, describing the staff as rude and the food as “mediocre at best”.

According The Mirror, a London law firm contacted her saying the review was defamatory and could cause financial harm to the business.

“Our client will pursue you for aggravated damages to compensate it for the full extent of its financial losses,” the letter said.

So far Ms Gardner is sticking by her review.

9.10am: Nothing to see here

Suspected Labor challenger Anthony Albanese denies there’s a rift between him and party leader Bill Shorten over the federal coalition budget.

Differing takes on the Budget have reignited debate about Labor’s leadership, forcing Mr Albanese to again rule out challenging Mr Shorten.

Mr Albanese declared the Budget an “overwhelming victory” for Labor as it mirrored many of the party’s policies. This was in contrast to Mr Shorten’s own budget reply speech, which sought to distance the opposition from claims it was “Labor-lite”.

Mr Albanese told Nine Network this morning: “If you look at the substance of the two speeches they’re identical in terms of the narrative”.

9am: Adani mine may get “royalties holiday”

The Queensland government is being attacked from all sides over a “secret deal” offered to Indian mining giant Adani, which could end up costing taxpayers $320 million in lost royalties.

Labor has reportedly gifted a “royalties holiday” for the proposed $21 billion Galilee Basin facility that would see Adani pay just $2 million annually in royalties for the first seven years of operation.

The ABC says the deal could be signed as early as this week and has created a divide within government.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt on Thursday rejected suggestions a special arrangement had been hatched with the Indian miner after Premier Annastackia Palaszczuk failed to confirm or deny the story.

8.35am: Campaign to turf out Venezuelan rich

Human rights activists have launched a petition calling for Lucia Rodriguez, the daughter of hard-left Mayor of Caracas, Jorge Rodriguez, along with other children of the socialist regime’s leaders, to be thrown out of Australia — and the source of their cash investigated.

Ms Rodrigquez is believed to be living in Bondi and campaigners are furious she is enjoying all the trappings of living in a liberal democracy while her compatriots can’t afford to buy medicine or break, let alone send their kids overseas to study.

8.15am: Trump campaign will be subject of independent investigation

The Justice Department has appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to lead a federal investigation into allegations Donald Trump’s campaign collaborated with Russia to sway the 2016 election.

Mr Mueller will have sweeping powers and the authority to prosecute any crimes he uncovers.

Mr Trump hit back at the appointment saying he was the victim of a “witch hunt”.

Meanwhile White House spokesman Sean Spicer, who has been skewered by late night US TV shows, may have his public appearances scaled back.

8.10am: Former lover reveals luxury lifestyle of ATO accused

The former lover of the ATO deputy commissioner’s son, Adam Cranston, has revealed how she was lavished with luxury clothes, jewellery, cars and surgery by her lover who is now accused of a multi-million dollar tax fraud.

Toni Brady, 24, told the Herald Sun she was swept off her feet by Adam Cranston, 30.

“It felt like a Pretty Woman situation,” she said.

“He bought me jewellery. Diamond earrings, Hermes bracelets, handbags. My favourite are Dolce and Gabbana.”

8.05am: Aussie teen lured overseas for sex

In an exclusive report, news.com.au journalist Marnie O’Neill has revealed a schoolgirl who vanished from one of Australia’s wealthiest suburbs last month, was rescued from a convicted killer more than twice her age after he groomed her on Snapchat and flew her to America for sex.

Police traced the 16-year-old girl from Sydney’s upper north shore and 39-year-old Sean Price to the basement of his mother’s New York home on May 12 after a joint operation between Australian Federal Police, the New York Police Department and Interpol.

7.55am: Old fashioned treatment rivals IVF

Couples battling to afford expensive IVF treatment could instead get pregnant using a free 100 year-old fertility test, astounding new research has found.

Australian obstetrician and researcher Professor Ben Mol has found 40 per cent of infertile women get pregnant after their fallopian tubes are flushed out with iodised poppy seed oil.

The test is available for free under Medicare and costs $500-$700 if performed privately and has the same success rate as IVF which costs $10,000.

7.50am: Attacked in jail for not playing footy

Fallen AFL star Ben Cousins has reportedly been attacked in a Perth prison for refusing to take part in an inmate footy match.

The former footy player was “set upon” by a group of prisoners, sports journalist Damian Barratt reported.

Cousins was said to have been targeted by inmates after rejecting a recent invitation to play in an in-house scratch match.

7.40am: Soundgarden singer’s death ruled a suicide

The medical examiner has determined that Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell killed himself in a Detroit hotel room following a concert.

A full autopsy report was not yet completed this morning, but the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement that the cause of death had been determined as suicide.

It came as footage of Cornell performing his last ever concert emerged online as tributes poured in following sudden death of the rock legend.

7.30am: NY man wanted police to kill him

Shocking news from New York, where a man ploughed his car into a Times Square crowd, killing a teen tourist and injuring 22 others.

According to the New York Post, Bronx resident and Navy veteran Richard Rojas, 26, told police after the incident: “You were supposed to shoot me! I wanted to kill them”.

Rojas, a Bronx resident who has been twice arrested for driving under the influence, wasn’t drunk when he went on the rampage, a high-ranking police official said.

He is currently being tested for drugs.

7.15am: Chelsea Manning reveals new look

Chelsea Manning took to Twitter and Instagram on Thursday, posting a portrait photograph of herself with short-cropped hair, bright red lipstick and a dark outfit with a plunging neckline.

The 29-year-old Oklahoma native, formerly known as Bradley Manning, included the caption, “Okay, so here I am everyone!!”

Manning was released early Wednesday from confinement at Kansas’ Fort Leavenworth, after having served seven years of a 35-year sentence for giving classified materials to anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks.

7am: TV teaser indicates Cassie may plead guilty

Cassie Sainsbury looks set to admit her role as a drug mule if the shock TV confessions of her fiance and family are anything to go by.

In a teaser for Seven’s Sunday Night, the 22-year-old’s fiance Scott Broadbridge appears to have conceded Ms Sainsbury will confess to being part of an international drugs syndicate when she fronts court in Colombia next month.
