A CALIFORNIA Air Force base has ordered its personnel to ‘resume normal duties’ after the facility went into lockdown following reports of an active shooter.
The Travis Air Base closed its gates and told occupants to lock themselves in place to allow authorities to “respond to a real world security incident”
A base official confirmed to CBS News that an ‘active shooter situation’ was the cause for the emergency, but this was later determined to be a false alarm.
The base, part way between San Francisco and Sacramento, warned personnel and nearby residents the alert was not a drill, and everyone was to stay away from the facility to allow emergency responders to do their work.
The base’s security gates were closed.
Initial alarms were met with apathy as the facility had earlier announced it would be undertaking several practice emergency drills this week.
But the base’s public address system blared an open warning to its occupants that this was a “real world lock down”.
Travis AFB, in Solano County, California, is part of the United States Air Force’s Air Mobility Command, which operates large cargo-carrying aircraft and helicopters.
