Here are the tech stories to take you into the weekend:
1. These are the 10 biggest deals in Australian tech last quarter. Computer server hosting provider Digital Pacific topped the table with its massive $52 million sale in July and artificial intelligence Hyper Anna, which made the Fintech100 just this week, came second with its $16 million raise in August. 2. Atlassian has three ways it builds trust among staff. Sherif Mansour, principal product manager at Atlassian, revealed the tech giant’s secrets to having an open company that allows employees “to share and express their opinion without feeling they are going to get judged, or pulled down”. 3. Xero has taken a swipe at rival MYOB’s $180 million acquisition of Reckon. Xero Australia boss Trent Innes said on social media that the deal could be “a tipping point” for management software in this country, and expressed concerns for the future of Reckon customers.
4. An Australian startup has found success making software they originally built for themselves. The founders of GorillaStack tried to make an app that showed the best prices from local bottle shops, but on the way ended up building a tool that manages diagnostic information from its Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Now that tool is its main game, after realising it’s useful for pretty much every AWS customer. Read more here.
5. Another startup has launched an app that scans a job seeker’s passport to instantly judge if they can legally work in Australia. CheckWorkRights claims to have a 100% accuracy rate courtesy of a real-time data feed from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. Read more here.
