The Environmental Protection Authority has recommended conditional approval for Tellus Holdings to develop a clay mine and waste storage facility at its proposed Sandy Ridge project in the Goldfields.
Under the proposal, Sydney-based Tellus will establish a waste facility storing secure landfill and intractable waste including non-nuclear, low-level radioactive waste.
EPA chairman Tom Hatton said the types of non-nuclear low level radioactive waste to be accepted at the facility included end-of-life smoke detectors, exit signs and sealed industrial testing equipment, among other things.
