Simon said he and his parents initially couldn't believe what they were seeing when he got his score.

His mum, Mary, said she was in awe of Simon's result.

"At first it was just disbelief, we looked again," she said.

"We're just really proud of him."

The list of recipients was otherwise dominated by those who attended prestigious independent and Catholic schools and some non-selective state schools. One student each from Princes Hill Secondary College, Balwyn High, Glen Waverley Secondary College and Albert Park College also received the offer.

Melbourne Grammar School student Austin Haynes said he was thrilled to receive a perfect score of 99.95 and overwhelmed to receive even more good news from the university.

"I'm over the moon, " he said.

"It's intense, I'm also quite tired after the whole year."

Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School student Yanyun Ran said she too could barely believe her perfect score.

"I've never seen my parents more proud," she said.

So how did they all achieve such stellar scores? All three say support from their parents throughout their schooling, not just VCE, got them through.

"I would also say great teachers and organisation," Simon said.

The impressive group of scholarship recipients intend to take a well-earned break over summer, though their thoughts have already turned to their higher education.

Simon and Yanyun, who both studied primarily maths and science subjects, plan to study medicine while Austin, who thrived in English, literature and humanities is yet to decide but is leaning towards arts and literature courses.
