A 1940s character home in Millswood was all the rage with family buyers at its recent auction, where it sold for almost $400,000 above the suburb’s median house price.

Nestled on a quiet tree-lined street and surrounded by other quality homes, the property at 46 Lynton Ave sold just shy of its $1.4 million price guide, selling agent Peter Brown of Toop&Toop revealed.

Millswood’s median house price, meanwhile, currently sits at $1 million, according to CoreLogic data.

“It was a good price and we’re happy with the result even though the price needed to be negotiated towards the end,” he said.

“We had three registered bidders and bidding started at around $1.3 million.

“In the end, it sold to a local family.”

Set on a spacious 1115sqm block, the five bedroom home comprised of around 290sqm of living space, including formal living and dining spaces, a large family room with rear yard access, two bathrooms and a central kitchen.

Surrounded by landscaped gardens, the home also featured plenty of character features, including ornate ceilings, lead light windows and French doors.

Mr Brown said the property’s location and presentation saw “good and steady” interest from buyers at opens and throughout the auction campaign.

“We had both couples and families look at the home, but we also had interest from interstate buyers,” he said.

“They were drawn to the property because of its size.

“So all in all, we’re really happy with the result, especially for this time of year and things slow a little just before Christmas.

“That said, sales are still being made and we’re starting to see more interest form interstate buyers, looking to relocate to Adelaide, hoping to secure a home before school starts.”
