Rangers guard Bec Cole showed why she was added to the Australian Opals squad this week scoring a team-high 20 points and adding three steals while Carley Mijovic scored 13 points and point guard Tessa Lavey had 10 points, all in the first term.

The Fire have lost a lot of championship-winning talent in the past two seasons, but Sunday's game offered a glimpse of what could be a glittering future should they find some key pieces for next season.

"It’'s been a massive learning curve for me this season - I didn't think I would be losing Suzy this early on," Garbin said.

"I was sort of thinking it would be something we would figure out next season. I definitely struggled soon after we lost Suzy, and in this last week I've just had a bit more confidence and backed myself more.

"It's a tough ask and I think we get played more tightly as when Suzy is out there she gets a double or triple team - now we are catching the ball and not as wide open as we usually are so it's definitely been an adjustment."

Batkovic hopes to prove her fitness for a farewell game against Sydney in Townsville this Saturday.

For the Rangers the game was somewhat reflective of their season.

The first half they showed dash and dare, attacking the basket and going point for point with the Fire - they won two games on the road in Townsville this season and showed why during the early stages of the match.

But after half time when the Fire improved their offence, the Rangers didn’t keep pace and mental errors soon led to them conceding more baskets.

Dandenong will be much better for having a full-season from Sara Blicavs next campaign. The team have proved on occasion they have a winning formula, but the second half of the season showed they rely too much on too few so more contributors will be needed for next season.

Cole said her side showed some fatigue after several weeks of back-to-back games.

"That was a disappointing game and even though we had won two straight against Townsville we really wanted to make it three, especially on our home court," Cole said.

"Defensively we really let ourselves down and you could tell we were tired in our legs as well.

"A lot of us got rested this week after a month of double-headers, but that doesn't matter and everyone would be feeling it - we just didn’t bring our "A game" today."

The Melbourne Boomers locked in a top-two finish with a 98-83 win over Adelaide Lightning in Adelaide on Saturday with Lindsay Allen (22 points), Jenna O’Hea (11 points, 13 rebounds) and Steph Talbot (21 points) all leading the way.

The WNBL enters the final round this weekend with all teams playing one game on Saturday. The top four teams are decided, and Canberra Capitals will join the Boomers in the top-two - but who the two clubs will face out of Perth Lynx and Adelaide Lightning are still to be finalised.

The Rangers host the Boomers at Dandenong Stadium on Saturday at 6.30pm.
