Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson isn’t shy when it comes to revealing details about his tough childhood.

He openly speaks about how his parents tried to make ends meet and recently recalled the time when they couldn’t even afford Thanksgiving dinner. However, as he said, they got through it and “here we are today”.

Showing just how appreciative he is, Johnson, 46, shared a touching video with his 113 million Instagram followers explaining how he told his father, Rocky, he was buying him a new house.

“I just got off the phone with my dad and, man, it was a great call, and I just had to share this with you guys really quick,” he began in his video.

“So about two, three weeks ago, I called my dad and I said, ‘Look, you’re probably happy where you’re at, but I want to do something for you. I want to buy you a brand new home, wherever you want to live, you can live.’”

“He couldn’t believe it, he was speechless,” the Skyscraper actor continued. “So he just called me now. It’s a big weekend, he’s gonna go look at properties. He’s a Florida boy, so he’s going to go up to North Florida and look and he goes, ‘I’m so excited. I’m also so nervous’.”

When Johnson asked his father what an “old-school tough guy” like he had to be nervous about, his dad responded: “No one ever called to tell me they were gonna buy me a house before, and the fact that it’s you, it’s my son, I’m so proud of you and I love you so much.”

Johnson said he had never heard his father, a former Canadian pro wrestler, speak like that before.

“It felt good to me, and it felt good to my heart,” he emotionally said, before explaining his dad used to “beat my a**e. Tough love.”

And while Johnson hated it back then, he is grateful for it now.

“It just felt good to kind of give back to the ones who raised you. So, love you too, Pop,” he said.

Last year, Johnson did the same for his mum, sharing an adorable video of her opening a Christmas card revealing the generous gift.

The card read: “We love you mum, and Merry Christmas. This Willy Wonka golden ticket is good for …”

In the video she then starts laughing and crying before reading the remainder of the card: “A new house!”

Johnson details an upbringing where his family “lived like gypsies in little apartments all across the country”.

“I always say, if you got a good mama, then you gotta pretty good shot at becoming a decent human being,” Johnson said in the caption alongside the video.

“And somehow, somewhere along the line I became one lucky SOB to be able to make stuff like this happen.”

By stuff we guess he means having made more money in a single year than any other actor, topping the Forbes 2018 list and setting a new record at $124 million.

Last September, the actor and former gridiron player revealed his dark past when being cut from his Canadian football club, which had left him miserable and depressed.

“I was cut from the team, told I wasn’t good enough — and sent home with $7 bucks to my name,” Johnson said in his post.

However, the message he wanted to get across to his fans — and often posts about — is never give up.

“I’ve been there, so I encourage you to keep working hard and remember that sometimes our dreams that don’t come true, can ultimately become the best thing that never happened,” he said.
