It’s official: the final season of Game of Thrones is about to hit Australian screens.

After nine long years, countless character deaths, and plenty of sexposition, Game of Thrones is coming to an end. While it will be sad to see it go, we can’t wait to see who ultimately ends up on the Iron Throne. If anyone.

Foxtel Now

Foxtel Now – Foxtel’s revamped streaming service – is probably the easiest way to watch Game of Thrones season eight in Australia. You can get Game of Thrones as part of the basic Foxtel Now starter pack which costs $25 per month, with no lock-in contract.

Based on past years, new episodes should be added shortly after they air on Foxtel. If you can’t wait, you can use Foxtel Now’s live TV functionality to watch live at the same time it plays in the US, or the evening repeat (8:30pm AEST).

The first episode of Game of Thrones season eight will air at 11am on April 15, AEST.

Season eight will only have six episodes, and assuming they air on a weekly basis, you might be able to get away with only spending $25 to watch the entire season. Foxtel Now has a 10-day free trial for new subscribers, which will cover your first two episodes. You’ll then be billed $25 for your first month, which will cover the final four.

If you need to catch-up or recap, Foxtel Now also has the first seven seasons of Game of Thrones available now on demand.

Foxtel Now is available on iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, Google Chrome on Windows and Mac, Telstra TV, and Google Chromecast. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox One run the older Foxtel Play app, which can access the same content, but can’t play shows in high definition.

With your Foxtel Now starter pack, you can also get access to other premium HBO shows like Westworld, The Walking Dead, Sharp Objects and Mr Robot.

If you’re happy to pony up a bit more cash, you can go the whole hog and take out a proper Foxtel subscription. To watch Game of Thrones, you’ll need to sign up for the drama combo, which is $49 per month. You’ll also also typically pay $125 for the iQ4 set-top box and $100 for an installation fee. If you want to watch in HD, you’ll need to pay an extra $10 per month.

However, Foxtel is currently running some great promos on subscription in the lead-up to Game of Thrones. Set up costs are currently being waived on most bundles, and some plans are available at a discounted rate.

The “Sport + Drama + Entertainment + HD” combo will set you back $58 per month, and the “Movies + Drama + Entertainment + HD” combo is going for $59 per month. If you were going to spring for HD anyway, it’s definitely worth opting for one of these two packages instead.

New episodes of Game of Thrones season eight will premiere at 11am AEST on Showcase on Mondays, which is the same time as they air in the US. If you can’t drop everything to watch during the day, a repeat screening will air at 8:30pm AEST. It will also be repeated several times throughout the week.

Foxtel services can also be bundled with broadband from Foxtel, Telstra, or Optus.

iTunes and Google Play

If you’re happy to wait until season eight is over, you should be able to buy and binge-watch the entire thing for around $30. Based on what we saw happen with season seven, you should be able to purchase the entire season – or individual episodes – through online stores such as iTunes and Google Play almost as soon as the last episode airs on Foxtel.

We’re expecting the last ever episode of Game of Thrones to air on May 20. It’s a bit of wait though, which isn’t great if you’re trying to avoid spoilers.
