On top of the lived experience he brings to the show, Rodgers is a natural host. He has an easy rapport whether speaking to academics, psychologists or former gamblers.

"I suppose when I initially thought of the idea, I kind of felt like I had it in me to host it, [but] apart from a little bit of drama at school or something like that [I've had] no formal training. But I'm getting some really good feedback with the way it's all come across. So yeah, it's been a great experience for me as I'm a plumber during the day, and a podcaster a night."

Rodgers hopes the podcast can be the first step to recovery for others suffering the effects of a gambling addiction. The nine-episode series cover Rodgers' personal story, then moves on to getting help, treatment programs, and dealing with triggers and urges.

"Initially, when we first got the podcast out there, we gave it to more professionals and people working within the industry, and that was really positive. And then once we started giving it to people actually struggling with their gambling, we all started getting some really good feedback," he says.

"I was talking to a young male who said, 'Oh mate, I've just listened to the podcast. And I just felt ... I didn't feel alone when I was listening to it.' And it hit me, I just couldn't believe the amount of people that are going through exactly the same things as me.

"So that was pretty much at that moment that all the work that we've done was worth it. You know? We've got good feedback through the professionals and things like that, but when you actually hear it from a gambler's own mouth? It was just unbelievable. And yeah, that really touched me, actually."
