A deal was inked for 17 Durham St, Southport, at auction last weekend.

The Coast’s auction market has become sluggish in recent weeks but that hasn’t stopped one stylish house fetching a seven-figure sum under the hammer.

Two bidders vied for the keys of the renovated Southport house at last weekend’s auction.

Two other interested buyers were unable to bid due to not having finance in place before the auction.

Two parties bid for the four-bedroom house at auction.

Bidding opened at $1.4 million.

Bidding opened at $1.4 million before a handful of bids pushed the price to $1,416,800 when the property was announced on the market. The hammer fell at this price.

Amir Prestige principal Amir Mian, who marketed the property, said a young family with children who attend local schools won the keys.

“Every dollar was taken out of the buyer … (hence) the odd sale price,” Mr Mian said.

“(The) majority of people who came were attracted to the (TSS) school zone.”

The house sold for $1,416,800.

A young family secured the keys.

Mr Mian said it was a beautiful and charming home on a lovely street.

“It’s three levels and is beautifully presented with a Hamptons and beach look,” he said.

The four-bedroom house at 17 Durham St was recently updated to give it a modern edge with a 500-bottle wine cellar, a sound proof cinema and a pool among its standout features. High ceilings, a feature staircase and a neutral palette were also on show in the tri-level house.

Property records show it hit the market in January last year and took 440 days to find a buyer. A $1.639 million price tag was originally attached to the listing before the auction campaign.

It was one of 36 Gold Coast homes where owners tried their luck at auction last weekend.
