Some of America’s top agents are hoping the same tactic that might get us over the line to buy a jumper we’ve been eyeing off at the mall works at property’s ultra top end.

Everyone loves a 20 per cent discount when refreshing their wardrobe, but when talking about one of the most expensive houses for sale in the US, that saving goes a hell of a lot further.

The French chateau-style mansion dubbed “Spelling Manor” in Los Angeles has re-emerged on the market with a staggering US$40 million (AUD$57,805 million AUD) discount.

But it will still set you back $160 million US, or about $231.225 million Australian.

British heiress Petra Ecclestone, the daughter of Formula One billionaire Bernie Ecclestone, first started trying to find a buyer for the sprawling estate in 2016 with hopes of $200 million.

It’s now back on the market with the tasty discount through a team of top agents.

The property, originally owned by TV producer Aaron Spelling, behind Charlie’s Angels, Charmed and Beverly Hills 90210, and his wife Candy, would fit right in on the silver screen.

The 5249sq m mansion on 1.9ha’s lavish features include sculptural gardens, a tennis court, pool, indoor and outdoor spas, massive home theatre and bowling alley.

All of that for guests of 14 bedrooms, serviced by 27 bathrooms, to enjoy.

An entry foyer with 9m-high ceilings and a sweeping double staircase makes an immediate impression, while grand living and dining rooms take in the grounds through French doors.

The sellers have enlisted an “all-star team of Los Angeles’s top brokers”.

“The famed manor is surrounded by many other elite properties, including the Playboy Mansion and the Gregory Peck Estate,” a media release states, according to Mansion Global.

“It has hosted countless events with Hollywood’s elite and has received such noteworthy guests as Prince Rainier, Jackie Kennedy as well as Prince Charles and Princess Diana.”

A plaque at the front entrance commemorates the princess’ stay at the house.

Ms Ecclestone benefited from an even bigger discount when she bought the home in 2011 for $85 million. It had been listed for two years for $150 million.
