"Norway is good competition. We have played them a few times. I have played in Norway so I know a lot of those girls"

Despite the fact that Australia are ranked sixth in the world and the Norwegians were ranked 12th before the tournament, Logarzo said that the knock out tie was evenly poised.

"Every game is a 50-50 when you come to the World Cup. We just keep trying to push outside of our boundaries, not just make it through the round of 16.

"We have never progressed further than the quarter-finals so we are looking at going all the way."

Australia were red-hot favourites to see off Jamaic,a but struggled for long periods of the game.

Even if the oddsmakers favour the Matildas over Norway, that means little, according to winger Emily Gielnik.

"I’ve watched a couple of the games. I definitely don’t underestimate them," she said of the Norwegians.

"No team, as you saw against Jamaica who had some great stints, can be underestimated

"I think it's important to treat this as if it is France in France and just like any other game."

Gielnik said that finishing second when Australia were seeded to finish top of their group should not be regarded as a failure.

"I think it’s a success because we haven’t played our best football," she said. "So hopefully we’ve had enough games where we can learn from this and grow from the mistakes we’ve made.

"We’re lucky we didn’t get punished for not playing our best. We’re out of the group stage and we can progress."

She has a more pugnacious attitude than most about facing the big guns.

"Whether we came first or second or third, we weren’t intimidated if we had to play France or America.

"Obviously it's best case, playing a different team because there’s more energy going forward, more positivity. Even though it isn’t France we’re going into it as if it was."
