Mert Ney has been released from hospital, three days after a violent stabbing spree in Sydney's CBD, which left one woman dead and another in hospital.

The 20-year-old from Marayong in Sydney's west was released from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital just after midday on Friday, having undergone treatment for injuries endured during the stabbing on Tuesday.

He has been taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he is expected to be charged with a number of offences later on Friday afternoon.

Mr Ney was detained during a dramatic citizen's arrest on Sydney's Wynyard St earlier this week, after he ran through the streets shouting religious slogans and brandishing a large bloodied butcher's knife.
