The siren call of a Tasmanian sea-change is the only reason Nic Van Buuren and Kathryn Clausen are saying goodbye to their Coromandel East home of the past 12 years.

“This was going to be our last home,” Mr Van Buuren, who grew up in the Apple Isle, says. “This was it … but even though we love it up here we decided we’d like to live in Tasmania.”

But Mr Van Buuren says they’re leaving with mixed emotions, having loved their years in their bushland haven, which offers a rare rural lifestyle only 10 minutes from Blackwood.

“Kath works in Norwood and it takes her 30 minutes to get to work, 10 minutes to Stirling, about 35 minutes to Adelaide, about 25 minutes to the beach and has quick access to Victor Harbor – it’s a great location,” he says.

Set on a 5ha block on no-through Star and Arrow Rd, the updated four-bedroom property offers almost unrivalled privacy. “It’s really quiet because of the no-through road and the birdlife up here is amazing … we’ve got koalas, kangaroos – the wildlife up here is probably one of our favourite features,” Mr Van Buuren says.

The couple has carried out extensive renovations on the 1970s built home, including putting in a new kitchen with modern appliances, flooring – floating timber floorboards and carpet – and updated bathrooms.

“We’ve spent 12 years working on it, we’re sort of wondering why we’re leaving,” he laughs.

“And externally, we’ve put in a 100,000 litre water tank and have basically landscaped the place with new retaining walls and gardens.”

Other features include the fire pit entertaining area by the dam and extensive shedding.

The property is on the market with Harris Real Estate Stirling. Offers close Wednesday, September 11, at noon.
