Geelong have ruled out Mitch Duncan and Gary Rohan is in doubt for their semi-final against West Coast at the MCG on Friday night, while midfield star Tim Kelly missed training with what Cats coach Chris Scott described as "a sniffle".

The Cats expect Cam Guthrie to be available to play, while they are considering bringing back Rhys Stanley in the ruck after his contentious omission from the qualifying final loss against Collingwood.

Coach Chris Scott maintained the decision to drop Rhys Stanley was not the reason the Cats lost their qualifying final to Collingwood.

Scott said he was prepared to wear criticism for the decision but remained of the view that Stanley's absence was not the reason the Cats lost the game. They restricted the Magpies to nine goals, with the Cats' execution forward of centre and accuracy when opportunities were created a bigger factor in the result.

"Sometimes there are moments that really cost you, a spilt mark or two players running into each other. I guess the easy and hopeful retrospective might be that if you had a different player there it might have been a different outcome," Scott said.
