Premier Daniel Andrews and the state’s other top five politicians have won annual pay rises worth nearly 12 per cent.

The Premier’s total wage will rise to $441,000 by July next year, an annual increase of more than $46,000, making Mr Andrews Australia’s best-paid state leader.

Opposition Leader Michael O’Brien will earn $352,000, a pay rise of more than $37,000, by July 2020.

Further down the parliamentary food chain, backbench MPs will get a pay rise of 3.5 per cent after Tuesday’s decision by the independent Remuneration Tribunal, taking their annual wage to $182,413.
