On the northside, the council has promised the bulk of the funding - a million dollars - to significant upgrades to Eildon Hill Reserve on the boundary of Wilston and Windsor.

The upgrades would include added foot and bike paths leading to a viewing platform and improved amenities.

In the north-west council has pledged $218,000 for a facelift for Keperra Bushland Reserve, including upgraded walking trails and a new picnic area at the top of the hill, giving views all the way to Moreton Bay.

And on the southside the Stephens Mountain nature reserve on top of the former Ekibin quarry behind Greenslopes Hospital will get $450,000 worth of improvements, chiefly a walking track to the highest point of the mountain, allowing for hikes and picnics.

The announcement comes as the lord mayor and his Liberal National Party majority in council try to differentiate themselves from Labor mayoral challenger Patrick Condren, who has made several policy announcements on reducing council entitlements, fixing footpaths and improving public transport.

Mr Condren on Saturday pledged $25.5 million to build two libraries in Brisbane if elected on March 28.

The Greens meanwhile have also started to announce policies ahead of the election, calling on Monday for limits of building heights to be more fully enforced.

Greens lord mayoral candidate Kath Angus claimed that the Brisbane City Plan’s flexibility towards height limits, property boundary setbacks and green space requirements was allowing developers to circumvent the restrictions.

"If the acceptable height outcome in a particular neighbourhood is five storeys, that should be non-negotiable," Ms Angus said.

"Planning rules should be stricter and more consistent, otherwise some developers who are well-connected to politicians and senior public servants get special treatment and are allowed to reap huge profits through building higher than everyone else."
