The man was charged with one count of fail to comply with a direction.

He is due to appear in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on April 16.

Broome police have also charged a 36-year-old Kardinya man for allegedly contravening biosecurity checkpoints and entering the Broome townsite as a non-essential traveller.

It will be alleged that yesterday the man was denied entry to the Kimberly region at the Sandfire checkpoint.

It will further alleged about 10.50pm last night police attended a premises in Louis Street, Broome and found the man in his vehicle.

He did not fall within any of the categories of exemption, therefore he was not authorised to enter the biosecurity area.

Under Commonwealth laws, access to prescribed biosecurity areas is restricted as part of efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Western Australia.

The man was arrested and remains in custody until he appears in Northbridge Magistrates Court via video link today.
