A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was allegedly beaten to death inside her Western Sydney home in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

About 2:40am yesterday, emergency services were called to a block of apartments on Lane Street at Wentworthville, after a neighbour reported a woman had been badly injured.

Despite their best efforts, Sabah Hafiz, 23, died at the scene.

Detective Acting Superintendent Simon Glasser said police believed Ms Hafiz had been assaulted, but were unsure if any weapon was used.

"It is a tragic outcome — we are taking it extremely seriously and we have established a strike force to investigate the circumstances of this murder," Acting Superintendent Glasser said.

Investigators have been searching for her husband, Adam Cureton, 24, who also lived at the property.

Sonah Hafiz, Ms Hafiz's father, told the ABC he had never met Mr Cureton, but believed the pair had been married only "a few years".

About 11am today, a 24-year-old man was arrested at Astoria Court in Maroubra.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station and is currently assisting with police inquiries.

Anyone who has further information about Ms Hafiz's death is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

If you or someone you know is experiencing violence or abuse you can call 1800 RESPECT (737 732).
