If there was one good thing that came out of 2020, it’s the rise of drive-in movie cinemas, where you can watch films all cosied up in the comfort of your own car. Since there has been a hiatus on many of the imminent film releases over the past year, it’s giving us the perfect excuse to re-watch old favourites — we’re certainly not complaining.
Last year, the Disney+ Drive-In toured the east coast of Australia, bringing with it a slice of normal life that we’d all been missing so much. Since it was such a raging success the first time, Disney+ has decided to bring it back for a second lap of the coast.
The first stop on the tour is Melbourne, and it’s all kicking off on February 23rd. Presented by Openair Cinemas, the entire experience is very no-fuss. All you have to do is book your ticket, pack comfortable blankets and stock up on your favourite movie snacks.
Once you arrive, you’ll have the chance to order snacks like popcorn, ice creams, soft drinks, and hot food, and thanks to DoorDash, it’ll be delivered right to your car. Simply download the app, pop in your order (and location), and it’ll all get dropped to your car. All you’ll have left to do is settle in for the film.
The line-up is diverse, with classics all showing on the big screen to celebrate the launch of Star, Disney+’s new entertainment content brand. As we mentioned, the line-up is stacked with nostalgic movies like “Armageddon” and “Speed”, as well as Oscar-winning films like “The Favorite” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri”.
