After World War 2, Jack and Kathleen Earl decided to circumnavigate the globe but Kathleen decided it made more sense for her to stay at home with the children, Mick and Maris. Jack would sail without his family and he kept his wife in his thoughts through sending her love letters that are now on display at the State Library of NSW.
