The number of offences referred for prosecution increased by almost 1500 in 2019-20 compared with the previous year.

Among more than 7000 matters handled by the office were several high-profile cases, such as John Chardon, who was convicted of killing his wife; Robert Wagner, who was convicted of the murder of his uncle who he claimed went missing in 1999; and Simona Zafirovska, who was convicted of the murder of her mother in the home they shared.

The number of property offences received for prosecution rose 6 per cent to 12,781 in 2019-20.

There was also a high volume of drug offences, consistent with the previous year, and charges of violence.

The number of offences of choking, suffocation or strangulation in a domestic setting decreased 17.4 per cent to 613 charges.

More than $5 million was seized from criminal activity by the ODPP, with millions of dollars in forfeiture orders secured over money, property and cars.

The money will be funnelled into Queensland’s coffers to boost the state’s economic recovery.
