Good morning folks. This is it.

1. Israel and Hamas have finally called a cease-fire ending two weeks of fighting. The latest flare up ranks as the bloodiest chapter of the Israel-Palestine conflict since 2014. It has killed at least 232 Palestinians and 12 Israelis.

2. Vaccine passports are coming to Australia. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has suggested the digital documents are the “next step” to reopening the country. Once implemented, a digital app would allow vaccinated Australians to travel more freely into, out of, and around the country. Labor has called the plan a little premature given how delayed the rollout has been and the issues plaguing quarantine facilities.

3. Qantas has revealed how badly the pandemic has hurt it. On Thursday, CEO Alan Joyce revealed the airline has lost “at least” $16 billion in revenue over the last 14 months, announcing another cost-cutting program to stem the bleeding. International flight crews will be offered voluntary redundancies and all employees will face a two-year freeze on wages.

4. Australian unemployment has fallen again, dropping to 5.5% in April. Despite the improvement in the headline figure, the jobs market remains “a mixed bag”. Following the end of JobKeeper, some 30,000 jobs did disappear from the labour market as more Australians simply left the workforce.

5. Amazon will begin investing in and producing more Australian content, as streaming giants begin to invest locally. It comes hot off the back of a similar announcement from Netflix, beginning with the production of ‘Byron Baes’, a reality show about Australia’s most vain, leading to absurd scenes like this.

6. The Federal Budget was supposed to be a ‘Women’s Budget’ this year, but it didn’t go nearly far enough. Economists and business leaders have lamented what it missed, and point out that particularly older women were left out in the cold by it. These are the missed opportunities presented by it.

7. Jeff Bezos has revealed what a seat on his next spaceflight will cost you. Bids on Blue Origin’s 11-minute rocket flight have now reached $US2.8 million. Sure, I’m starting to see a business case but I’m also seeing Dr Evil in this photo.

8. Snap has unveiled two big new tech features. The first will allow users to scan people’s outfits and then buy the same items online. The second is a new pair of artificial reality (AR) glasses with built-in screens, four cameras and two microphones. They allow the wearer to overlay anything they want to over the real world.

9. Dogecoin may be making another comeback amid a huge consolidation of the crypto market. The meme coin jumped more than 15% off the back of yet another Elon tweet. Musk went on to confirm he hasn’t sold and won’t sell any of his holding, while the mysterious whale who owns a $US15 billion stake bought just 420.69 coins overnight. What a ride.

10. Meanwhile the United States is investigating launching its own digital currency. The US Federal Reserve, the world’s most powerful central bank, said it is exploring the development of a currency and will release a report into its findings soon. The RBA is doing similar work here with a digital version of the Australian dollar.
