Good morning team and blessed Friday to you all.

1. Brisbane has extended its lockdown for another 24 hours, while others in the south-east of the state will exit theirs tonight. It comes as Queensland, the other states and the federal government fight over quarantine caps amid Australia’s latest outbreak, with a National Cabinet decision due this morning.

2. Australia’s share market finished the financial year nearly 25% higher than it began it. This is how the year shook out, and which Australian companies were crowned the best and worst performers.

3. It followed the property market which rose 13.5% in just 12 months nationally, with some capital cities climbing 21% higher over the year. The spoils flooded into the luxury property segment in particular, with Sydney ranked as one of the most expensive top end markets in the world.

3. Here we go again. A Dogecoin spin-off has doubled in value after Elon Musk sent off an early-morning Tweet. The non-sensical “Baby Doge, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo” — a reference to the song “Baby Shark” — has seen the Baby Doge coin catch fire.

4. New Robinhood figures show more than a third of the platform’s revenue came from Doge, with its popularity decline even listed as a risk to its coming IPO.

5. ‘Big Short’ investor Michael Blurry meanwhile has announced that the meme trade is over, as the market runs “out of new money” and new investors willing to jump in. He also has warned the greater stock market is on the brink of collapse, although Wall Street Bets users remain unconvinced.

6. China has issued a stark warning to its enemies, as it marks the 100-year anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. In an address, President Xi Jingping said anyone who tried to influence China from the outside would “crack their heads and spill blood”. Xi also said the country would not accept “sanctimonious preaching” from other nations as it ignores criticisms over its record of human rights abuses.

7. Tim Berners-Lee, one of the credited co-founders of the internet, has sold the original source code as an NFT for $US5.4 million ($7.23 million). For that price, the new owner got the code in its entirety, a 30-minute animation and a letter written by Berners-Lee.

8. A political furore has erupted over data that suggests 10,000 non-residents recently entered Australia for non-essential reasons. However, the big picture is actually far more complicated, a Grattan immigration expert tells Business Insider Australia, shining a light on how Australia is getting a ‘very important policy area’ wrong.

9. As Australian policymakers squabble over vaccines and borders, businesses are increasingly struggling to find workers. Almost one in four say they have an outstanding vacancy, as the labour market looks to tighten even further in the months to come.

10. Uber and rival Lyft are facing a tide of sexual assault lawsuits in the US, alleging drivers sexually assaulted or harassed passengers. It comes as pressure ramps up to have mandatory surveillance cameras in cars to deter assaults.
