Filmmaker Martin McKenna and his philanthropist wife Deborah Barlow have sold their opulent Victorian-era Elwood house named after the great-aunt of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

McKenna worked on Neighbours, All Saints, Stingers, Packed to the Rafters as a writer, and the miniseries Corelli starring Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness.

The circa-1891 home at 6 Dickens St — boasting a gold-wallpapered music room, sauna, pool, formal lounge, gym and cellar — sold in July.

The house was advertised with a $10.5m price tag but its sales price was undisclosed.

Elwood’s current $9.4m house price record was set by 31 Ormond Esplanade last year, CoreLogic records show.

Ms Barlow and McKenna purchased the abode for $6.55m in 2015.

The house, originally built for a former St Kilda mayor, was named ‘Trefusis’ in honour of the late English socialite and author Violet Trefusis, whose sister Sonia was grandmother of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles’ wife.

A character in Virginia Woolf’s 1928 novel Orlando was based on Trefusis who was known for her romance with fellow writer Vita Sackville-West.

Trefusis received France’s highest order of merit, the Legion d’Honneur, for participating in the La France Libre broadcasts in World War II, which urged French defence personnel to fight against the Nazis.
