On Friday, Elon Musk tweeted out four words, "the bird is freed" a cryptic phrase that confirmed that after a seven-month saga the billionaire had finally gone through with his purchase of social media platform Twitter.
The tweet quickly racked up 2.1 million likes and Mr Musk wasted no time decreeing changes for the company like forming a content moderation council with "wildly diverse viewpoints".
This was in between tweeting genitalia jokes about firing data engineers and actually firing Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal and legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.

Does Elon Musk own Twitter?
Yes.
Elon Musk is now the owner of Twitter after the social media platform confirmed the deal in a filing to the US financial regulator this week.
This means that Mr Musk bought 100 per cent of Twitter, turning the company from publicly owned to privately owned.
Twitter shareholders voted in favour of Mr Musk's takeover back in September. He previously owned 9.2 per cent of Twitter's stock, making him the platform's largest stockholder.
How much did Elon Musk pay for Twitter?
Mr Musk purchased all of Twitter's stock for $US54.30 ($84.60) each, paying a total $US44 billion ($62 billion) for complete ownership of the company.
In April, Mr Musk secured $46.5 billion of funding for the deal.
The world's richest man put $US21 billion of his own money into the deal's funding package. He raised a further $US12.5 billion via a lone secured against his shares in Tesla, the electric car company of which he is CEO.
US investment bank Morgan Stanley provided the final $US13 billion in debt financing.
When did Elon Musk buy Twitter?
Officially, Mr Musk's deal to buy Twitter was finalised on October 28, 2022.
But the journey was after an extremely long and convoluted process, often complicated by comments made by Mr Musk on the very platform he was attempting to acquire.
Here's a brief timeline.
April 4: Mr Musk buys a 9.2 per cent stake in Twitter making him the largest shareholder.
April 5: Twitter announces it is appointing Mr Musk to the company board but rescinds this decision on April 11.
April 14: Mr Musk makes a bid to buy all shares in Twitter for $US44 billion.
April 25: A deal is reached between Twitter and Mr Musk to buy the platform. In a statement posted to Twitter, Mr Musk says: "Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated."
May 13: Mr Musk says that the deal is "temporarily on hold" while he waits on Twitter to confirm that fewer than 5 per cent of its users are fake spam accounts. He would double down on this stance, saying the deal "cannot move forward" until the issue is resolved.
July 8: Mr Musk withdraws his bid, which his lawyers say is due to Twitter making "false and misleading representations upon which Mr Musk relied when entering into the merger agreement".
July 12: Twitter sues Mr Musk, demanding he close the deal on the agreed terms.
July 29: Mr Musk countersues Twitter, accusing the company of deliberating misrepresenting the number of spam accounts on the platform to mislead investors.
October 4: Mr Musk offers to buy Twitter after all on the terms agreed to in April. The announcement comes two days before the billionaire is due to be interviewed under oath by Twitter's lawyers for the upcoming trial.
October 6: Delaware Judge Kathaleen McCormick sides with Mr Musk's request for a trial postponement after he agreed to buy the platform again. She gives Mr Musk and Twitter until October 28 to complete the deal.
October 26: Mr Musk shows up to Twitter headquarters with a sink.
October 28: Twitter confirms the deal in a filing to the US financial regulator. The filing says the deal closed the previous day.
Who owned Twitter before Elon Musk?
Twitter was a publicly owned company before it was purchased by Elon Musk and had no singular or group owner.
Will Elon Musk let Donald Trump back on Twitter?
Mr Musk's acquisition of Twitter has left many worried that the free speech-loving billionaire would allow previously banned people back onto the platform.
In a Tweet posted on Friday, Mr Musk said Twitter would be forming a "content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints", and "no major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes".
Advocacy group Ultraviolet has urged Mr Musk and Twitter executives to continue to enforce the ban on former US president Donald Trump "as well as violent right-wing extremists and white supremacists".
"His acquisition of Twitter has opened Pandora's box," the group said in a statement.
Mr Trump on Friday said he planned to stick to his own Truth Social media platform despite Mr Musk's promise to reinstate his account after he was banned following the attack on the US Capitol.
Despite Mr Musk's statement to potential advertisers that Twitter would not descend into a "hellscape", in the hours after his takeover was finalised dozens of extremist profiles, some newly created, circulated racial slurs and Nazi imagery while expressing gratitude to Mr Musk for his new leadership.
