Giant manta rays and turtles in the sand were just some of the ways students in Tumbes, Peru celebrated #CallToEarthDay. 

Planeta Océano, a marine conservation organization founded by Rolex Awards Laureate Kerstin Forsberg, teamed up with other local organizations to bring together students to learn about the ocean and how to protect it.

As well as making sand sculptures of marine species, they received lectures about the Amotapes-Manglares Northwest Biosphere Reserve which looks after mangrove forests in the area, and they sampled the beach for microplastics.
