In late 2017 and 2018, Lucas Restaurants’ Baby and Kong were part of Deliveroo’s “Editions” super kitchen in Melbourne’s Windsor, where restaurants operate out of shared kitchen spaces that are delivery-only, but this ended in 2018.

Popular burger chain Royal Stacks, also once part of Deliveroo’s “Editions” super kitchen, may stop offering delivery after the platform ceased operations. Founder Dani Zeini said the business had deliberately chosen Deliveroo as their exclusive partner but had not decided whether to sign up with rivals Uber Eats, DoorDash or Menulog.

“We’ll just let the dust settle and see our numbers in a few weeks’ time,” Zeini said. “We know Uber Eats does 60 per cent deliveries in the market, but we want to be restaurant-first.”

Menulog has already moved to try capture former Deliveroo customers. On Friday, the company announced it would honour outstanding Deliveroo gift cards, vouchers and credit up to $75 until December 31.

“We expect there will be a lot of customers with unused Deliveroo vouchers and gift cards, so we would like to give them the opportunity to redeem those vouchers on their next Menulog order,” said Menulog managing director Morten Belling.

Customers will have to sign up to Menulog to redeem their credit and are invited to send a screenshot of the unused credit in a direct message to Menulog’s Facebook page.

Deliveroo entered the Australian market in 2015, ahead of Uber Eats which landed a year later, but has been unable to keep up as its rivals grew their market share. The London Stock Exchange-listed company shut its operations in Germany in 2019, Spain in 2021, and the Netherlands in 2022 before pulling the pin on the Australian market on Wednesday.
