However, Minns on Monday did not make the same commitment, adding that he would not speculate on “big government decisions in relation to revenue” before his new ministry was in place later this week.

“When that happens, we get briefings...get a deeper understanding about the budget position, particularly in relation to revenue and the potential effects on the economy,” he said.

“I’ve said all I’m going to say.”

Star Entertainment Group’s chief executive and managing director Robbie Cooke said a leadership restructure would commence and a replacement for Wharton announced soon.

“We are well positioned to announce shortly Scott’s successor as chief executive officer for Star Sydney,” Cooke said.

Nicola Burke, the general manager of transformation, will be the new chief transformation officer. She’ll be charged with overseeing the remediation of the group after a shocking period following two independent inquiries which found the group unfit to retain its coveted casino licences in NSW and Queensland last year.

The Star has completely overhauled its board and executive team since allegations of extensive anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism failings were first raised by an investigation by The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and 60 Minutes in 2021.

“We still have a lot of work ahead, but the board and the management team have an unwavering focus on proving our suitability to hold casino licences in NSW and QLD,” Cooke said.

Wharton, a former senior executive at Commonwealth Bank, was appointed chief executive officer of Star Sydney in July.

“My sincere thanks to Robbie, the board and the teams I’ve led for their support and assistance since joining The Star. It has been hugely rewarding to contribute alongside so many committed, hard-working leaders and team members,” he said.

Wharton’s resignation on Monday fell on the first day on the job of the group’s new chairman David Foster, who officially succeeded Ben Heap.
