Construction has finished on a massive solar farm on Queensland's Western Downs, which will have the capacity to power the equivalent of 235,000 homes.
Spruiked as Australia's largest solar farm, the 400 megawatt project near Chinchilla boasts more than a million solar panels.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Deputy Premier Steven Miles visited the site today to see the final solar panel installed, before the project undergoes final testing and commissioning begins.
"We'll be seeing more and more of these solar farms and wind farms right across Queensland because that's what we need to transition to a renewable energy future," Ms Palasczuk said.
State-owned electricity company CleanCo has signed a 10-year agreement with the project's owners, French company Neoen, to take 80 per cent of the power generated from the site to supply to customers like Coles, Wesfarmers and BHP, but it won't reveal how much the deal cost.
"I'm not sure we can disclose those details, but I will say, we were very fortunate we were able to put the deal together … before the energy challenges we had last year," CleanCo CEO Tom Metcalfe said.
"We got a very good deal with Neoen and I hope Neoen feels the same way."
Last year the Palaszczuk government unveiled its $62 billion, 10-year energy and jobs plan, which included new renewable energy targets of 70 per cent by 2032 and 80 per cent by 2035.
Ms Palaszczuk said today that legislation to enshrine those targets would be introduced to parliament by the end of the year.
