Police have found human remains close to where a missing 26-year-old man was last seen nearly two years ago near Nannup in Western Australia.

A police spokeswoman said a report was received yesterday morning.

Police said it would not be appropriate to speculate on whether the remains are those of Mr O'Connell, but indicated they were being treated as linked to the search for him.

"The remains were located close to a search area for a man who has been missing since 2021," a spokesperson said.

"[The] missing persons team, supported by South West District police, have conducted a thorough search for this missing person, the most recent of which took place in March 2023.

Mr O'Connell's family have led a number of community searches in the area since he went missing.
