Two men have been charged with drug trafficking offences following a vehicle stop near Newcastle in the NSW Hunter Valley. 

Officers from the Hunter Region Enforcement Squad stopped a utility on Apprentice Close at Beresfield just before noon.

It is alleged that during a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $1.08 million. 

Two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station.

They have been charged with trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and taking part in the supply of a prohibited drug – large commercial quantity. 

Both were refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court on Wednesday.
