A buyer who decided last minute to turn up to a Belmont auction has walked away with the keys to an entry-level home after his workmates convinced him to attend.
The man was one of two bidders who raised a hand for the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 7 Fisher Ave.
The 592sq m property sold under the hammer for $570,000 on Saturday.

“I wasn’t even going to come but I was talking to the guys at work and they said I should,” the buyer said.
“I’m going through a separation and was looking for a place with the kids.”
Entry-level owner-occupiers drove interest in the unassuming weatherboard home, which offered a central living zone, an ensuite to the main bedroom and a double garage.
The auction got off to a slow start as Barry Plant, Highton agent Matthew Constantine opened proceedings with a $450,000 vendor bid.
From there, the sale was wrapped up in minutes as the two bidders entered the race, competing in $10,000 increments.
The weatherboard home is well set back on the 592sq m block.
The lounge has a wood heater for winter warmth.
There’s also a secure rear yard, a double garage and single carport.
Mr Constantine declared the property on the market as the priced reached $550,000, the top end of the quoted range.
He said the location, close to both Belmont’s High St shopping strip and the rapidly expanding commercial hub in Grovedale, underpinned the value of the property.
The land size, garaging and liveability were also key attractions for potential buyers.
“It offers outstanding value as you can move in with nothing to do,” he said.
“Yes, there is little bits and pieces of TLC which is required here and there, but the property affords you the opportunity to move in and enjoy.”
