Late interior designer Stuart Rattle’s final project has returned to the market in Toorak – and it’s on track to have made more than $3m in just four years.

Rattle, a renowned industry figure, gave the historic 42 Heyington Place pad a contemporary makeover as the last design he would helm leading up to his murder in 2013.

The owners who commissioned his work sold the property in 2019 for $9.5m, while the current vendors have preserved the late designer’s work in a rare case where leaving a home untouched increased its value.

Kay & Burton Stonnington partner Jamie Mi, who has the lofty $12m-$13m listing with managing director Ross Savas, said Rattle’s work was “not to be repeated”.

“His design does add value these days,” Ms Mi said.

“(The owners) really respected the fact that it’s Stuart Rattle’s interior so they didn’t touch it.”

The stately arts and crafts property, built in the 1920s, features a glamorous open-plan kitchen with white stone benchtops, a French Lacanche cooker, Italian tapware and a butler’s pantry.

“The arts and crafts style can be dark normally but this is full of light,” Ms Mi said.

She added that buyers had described the property as “one of a kind” during its first open inspection last week.

The agent said the dwelling was mostly attracting family buyers, particularly those with children attending nearby private schools like St Kevins, as well as a handful of international and interstate buyers.

Expressions of interest for the four-bedroom home close on November 14.
