Renovation addict Alana Keep instantly pegged 27 Gimba Street as her next playground, but husband Gary Mawdsley was oblivious to the impending storm about to hit their marital shores.

“When I first saw Gimba Street I knew it was perfect, so I didn’t even wait to let Gary see it, I signed a contract to buy it straight away,” Ms Keep said.

“Thankfully he is getting pretty good at trusting that my visions work out in the end.”
But while living and parenting through “literal chaos” has its downsides, Ms Keep is ready to do it all again.

“I do have nightmares about when we had toddlers and no benchtops in our kitchen and things like that,” she said.

“But ultimately I like to see the transformation – I would go as far as saying I am addicted to the transformation.”

Hidden among the treetops in one of Brisbane’s most elevated residential streets, 27 Gimba Street has been fully refurbished in line with the overall renaissance of the understated northern Brisbane suburb of Mitchelton.

According to RP Data the previously “working class” locality has experienced 68 per cent price growth in the last five years.

“I feel like Mitchelton is really coming into its own,” Ms Keep said.

“We have our own high street with the Blackwood Street precinct and a lot of the older homes are being redone which breathes new life into the whole suburb profile.”

“We’ve opened it up so that you have a view from virtually everywhere you stand – to me the outlook is absolutely everything.

“You can see right out to Moreton Bay, the Brisbane port and Redcliffe.”
